AISI 304 – AISI 304 stainless steel strip

Description

AISI 304 (EN 1.4301, X5CrNi18-10) is the most widely used austenitic stainless steel, offering an excellent balance of corrosion resistance, formability, weldability and cost. It suits components for household appliances, food processing, electronics, furniture, automotive and precision engineering. As precision strip it provides clean surfaces, consistent thickness and predictable behaviour in blanking, bending and deep drawing. 3S supplies AISI 304 both annealed 2R/BA (bright annealed, bright surface) for stamping and cosmetic finishes, and work-hardened 2H for parts requiring higher strength and springiness, as strip, narrow strips from 3 mm, spools and sheets from 0.05 to 0.70 mm (annealed) and from 0.05 to 2.50 mm (work-hardened).

Properties

  • Good corrosion resistance in atmospheric and food environments
  • Excellent formability and weldability
  • Available annealed 2R/BA or work-hardened 2H
  • Versatile, widely available grade

Frequently asked questions

Request a quote
Is AISI 304 magnetic?
Annealed, it is essentially non-magnetic. After cold rolling, bending or deep drawing it can become slightly magnetic due to deformation-induced martensite. If non-magnetic behaviour is critical, consider AISI 305 or AISI 316L.
What is the difference between 2R/BA and 2H?
2R/BA is annealed in a protective atmosphere: bright surface, soft material, ideal for stamping. 2H is work-hardened by cold rolling: stronger and springier but less formable. The choice depends on your downstream process.

How can I get a quote?
