AISI 309S – AISI 309S stainless steel strip

Description

AISI 309S (EN 1.4833, X12CrNi23-13) is a high-temperature austenitic stainless steel with about 23% chromium and 13% nickel. This combination provides excellent resistance to oxidation and scaling, as a guide up to 1000 °C in air, together with good structural stability. Its restricted carbon content improves weldability compared with higher-carbon versions. It is used for furnace parts, muffles, heat exchangers, heat shields, burner components and heat-treatment equipment. 3S supplies AISI 309S precision strip in the annealed condition, as strip, narrow strips from 3 mm, spools and sheets in thicknesses from 0.05 to 0.70 mm.

Properties

  • High chromium for scaling resistance
  • Service in air up to approx. 1000 °C
  • Good weldability and toughness
  • Supplied annealed in thin gauges

Frequently asked questions

Request a quote
Is AISI 309S suitable for welded components?
Yes, it can be welded using the usual techniques for austenitic grades. For high-temperature service, use a filler metal of similar composition to maintain oxidation resistance in the weld.
309S or 310S: which is better?
310S, with more chromium and nickel, offers greater margin above 1000 °C and under severe thermal cycling. 309S is often sufficient at more moderate temperatures and is the more economical choice.

How can I get a quote?
