AISI 201 stainless steel strip
Manganese austenitic: less nickel, more stable price, high strength when work-hardened.

Description
AISI 201 (EN 1.4372, X12CrMnNiN17-7-5) is a 200 series austenitic stainless steel in which part of the nickel is replaced by manganese and nitrogen: it contains about 17% chromium, 6–7% manganese and 4–5% nickel. Compared with 304 it costs less and is less affected by nickel price swings; nitrogen gives it higher mechanical strength, especially in the work-hardened condition, with similarly good formability. Corrosion resistance is lower than 304: it is suited to indoor or mildly aggressive environments. It is used for window spacers, flue liners, kitchen utensils, small appliances and stamped parts. 3S supplies it annealed 2R/BA or work-hardened, as strip, narrow strips from 3 mm, spools, coils and sheets from 0.05 to 0.70 mm (annealed) and from 0.05 to 2.50 mm (work-hardened).
Properties
- Less nickel than 304: more stable cost
- High mechanical strength, especially when work-hardened
- Good formability
- Slightly magnetic after cold forming
