AISI 301 – AISI 301 stainless steel strip

Description

AISI 301 (EN 1.4310, X10CrNi18-8) is an austenitic stainless steel with reduced nickel and relatively high carbon, designed to work-harden rapidly during cold rolling. This makes it the benchmark grade for spring applications: flat springs, blades, clips, contacts and components that must return to shape after deflection. As precision strip it delivers very high tensile strength in thin gauges with tight tolerances. 3S typically supplies it in the 2H work-hardened condition, in several hardness levels, and on request also annealed 2R/BA, as strip, narrow strips from 3 mm, spools and sheets, in thicknesses from 0.05 to 0.70 mm (annealed) and from 0.05 to 2.50 mm (work-hardened).

Properties

  • Very high strength in the 2H work-hardened condition
  • Excellent elastic behaviour for springs and blades
  • Good corrosion resistance in mild environments
  • Available in several hardness levels with tight tolerances

Frequently asked questions

Request a quote
Is AISI 301 magnetic?
In the annealed condition it is practically non-magnetic, but cold rolling transforms part of the austenite into martensite. 2H work-hardened strip is therefore noticeably magnetic, and the effect increases with the degree of cold reduction.
Which temper should I choose for an AISI 301 spring?
It depends on load, bend radius and fatigue requirements. Harder tempers give more strength but less bendability. Send us your drawing and process details and we will suggest the most suitable 2H temper and tensile range.

How can I get a quote?

Tell us the alloy, finish, thickness, width, edge and format (strip/narrow strip/spool) and we will send you a quick quotation.
