AISI 305 – AISI 305 stainless steel strip

Description

AISI 305 (EN 1.4303, X4CrNi18-12) is an austenitic stainless steel with higher nickel than 304. The more stable austenite drastically reduces work-hardening and martensite formation during cold forming: the material stays soft, draws easily and remains practically non-magnetic even after stamping. It is ideal for electronic components, shielding, caps, sensor parts, tubes and multi-stage deep-drawn parts where magnetism and springback must be kept to a minimum. 3S supplies AISI 305 precision strip mainly annealed 2R/BA, as strip, narrow strips from 3 mm, spools and sheets from 0.05 to 0.70 mm.

Properties

  • Low work-hardening rate
  • Remains practically non-magnetic after forming
  • Excellent for deep drawing and multi-stage stamping
  • Corrosion resistance comparable to 304

Frequently asked questions

Request a quote
Why choose AISI 305 for electronic components?
Because it keeps a very low magnetic permeability even after stamping and deep drawing. In 304, forming can generate magnetic martensite; 305, with more nickel, limits this effect and ensures more consistent behaviour.
Is AISI 305 more corrosion resistant than 304?
Corrosion resistance is broadly comparable. The advantage of 305 is mechanical and magnetic: lower work-hardening and stable non-magnetic behaviour. For chloride environments a molybdenum grade such as 316L is preferable.
