Description
AISI 309 (EN 1.4828, X15CrNiSi20-12) is a heat-resistant austenitic stainless steel. Its high chromium and nickel content, combined with a silicon addition, forms a protective, adherent oxide layer that allows service in air up to approximately 1000 °C. It retains good toughness and reasonable strength at high temperatures and copes well with repeated thermal cycling. Typical uses include furnace components, heat shields, heat-treatment fixtures, burners, gaskets and combustion equipment parts. 3S supplies AISI 309 precision strip in the annealed condition, as strip, narrow strips, spools and sheets from 0.05 to 0.70 mm.
Properties
- Oxidation resistance in air up to approx. 1000 °C
- Silicon addition for a more protective oxide layer
- Good toughness under thermal cycling
- Supplied annealed, ready for processing
