Structured packing for columns

Structured packing consists of blocks of corrugated, perforated thin sheets installed in the distillation, absorption and gas scrubbing columns of refineries and chemical plants. The thin sheet creates a large liquid–vapour contact surface with low pressure drop.

The strip is embossed, perforated and corrugated continuously: consistent thickness and width ensure a regular corrugation and packing blocks that fit together without gaps. 3S supplies thin annealed 2R/BA strip, typically from 0.075 to 0.30 mm, in typical widths from 3.5 to 305 mm, in grades AISI 304, 304L, 316L, 321, 309, 310S, 410S, 430 and 441, with EN or ASTM tolerances and 100% dimensional control. The grade is chosen according to the process fluid and temperature; the EN 10204 3.1 certificate accompanies the plant documentation.

Frequently asked questions

Request a quote
Which grades are used for structured packing?
The most common are AISI 304L and 316L; for particular temperatures or fluids 321, 309, 310S or the ferritic 410S, 430 and 441 are considered. Tell us the process conditions and we will propose the grade.
In what format do you supply strip for corrugating lines?
As coils, slit strip and spools in the width of your line, with no minimum order and a 3.1 certificate.
