Heat shields for engine bay and exhaust

Heat shields protect wiring, pipes and engine bay components from the heat of manifolds, turbochargers, catalytic converters and silencers. They are thin stamped and embossed sheets, often multi-layer, that must withstand high temperatures, oxidation and corrosion from salt and condensate.

The grade is chosen according to temperature: the ferritic AISI 441 and 430, with good oxidation resistance and low thermal expansion, for exhausts and shields; annealed austenitic AISI 321 and 316L for the hottest or most corrosion-exposed areas; AISI 304 for less demanding uses. 3S supplies thin annealed 2R/BA strip with good drawability for stamping and embossing, typical thicknesses from 0.10 to 0.30 mm and widths up to 1250 mm, with EN or ASTM tolerances and 100% dimensional control.

Where it is used

Frequently asked questions

Request a quote
Ferritic or austenitic for heat shields?
Ferritic grades such as AISI 441 and 430 expand less and resist oxidation well, and are widely used in exhaust systems; austenitic AISI 321 and 316L are chosen for the hottest or most corrosion-exposed areas. Tell us the operating temperature and we will propose the grade.
What thicknesses are used for heat shields?
Usually thin strip, typically between 0.10 and 0.30 mm, often in several layers. We supply annealed thicknesses from 0.05 to 0.70 mm, in widths up to 1250 mm.
