AISI 430 – AISI 430 stainless steel strip

Description

AISI 430 (EN 1.4016, X6Cr17) is a ferritic stainless steel with about 17% chromium and no nickel. It is magnetic, offers good corrosion resistance in moderately aggressive environments and has a more stable cost than austenitic grades, as it is not affected by nickel price fluctuations. It has lower thermal expansion and good thermal conductivity. It is widely used in household appliances, decorative trim, kitchen components, magnetic parts, gaskets and automotive components. 3S supplies AISI 430 precision strip annealed 2R/BA with a bright surface, or work-hardened for greater stiffness, as strip, narrow strips, spools and sheets from 0.05 to 0.70 mm (annealed) and from 0.05 to 2.50 mm (work-hardened).

Properties

  • Magnetic, suitable for electromagnetic applications
  • Nickel-free: more stable cost
  • Bright BA surface for decorative uses
  • Available annealed or work-hardened

Frequently asked questions

Request a quote
Can AISI 430 be hardened by heat treatment?
No. As a ferritic grade it does not harden by heat treatment; strength can only be increased by cold working. Parts that must be quenched and hardened require martensitic grades.
Is AISI 430 suitable for outdoor use?
It performs well indoors or in mild environments. Outdoors, especially near the sea or with de-icing salts, it may show rust staining; in these cases an austenitic grade such as 304 or 316L is preferable.
