Flue liners and flexible chimney tubes

Flexible chimney liners are interlocked or corrugated stainless steel pipes inserted into chimneys to exhaust flue gases from boilers and stoves. The strip must withstand acidic condensate and flue gas temperatures.

Flexible flue liners are exposed to acidic condensate, especially with condensing boilers and solid fuels, which is why AISI 316L is normally used for its better resistance to chloride and acid corrosion; for less demanding uses AISI 304, 201, 430 and austenitic 1% Ni (200 series, type J4) are also used. The strip is profiled and interlocked continuously, so width and thickness must be consistent for the seam to stay tight and uniform along the whole liner. 3S supplies thin annealed 2R/BA strip, typically 0.10 to 0.12 mm thick in widths from 30 to 150 mm, with good formability, EN or ASTM tolerances and 100% dimensional control. Spools with parallel or traverse winding feed profiling machines without interruption. A 3.1 certificate is available on request to support product documentation.

Frequently asked questions

Request a quote
Why is 316L preferred over 304 for flue liners?
316L contains molybdenum and better resists corrosion from acidic condensate and chlorides in flue gases, particularly with condensing boilers and biomass appliances. We supply it in the annealed 2R/BA condition, well suited to profiling.
Does thickness affect liner flexibility?
Yes: thickness and lock seam profile determine flexibility and strength. Tell us the liner diameter and profile and we will propose a suitable strip thickness and width.
