AISI 316Ti – AISI 316Ti stainless steel strip

Description

AISI 316Ti (EN 1.4571, X6CrNiMoTi17-12-2) is a titanium-stabilised molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel. Titanium binds carbon into stable carbides and prevents chromium carbide precipitation at grain boundaries, so the material remains resistant to intergranular corrosion even after welding or prolonged exposure to intermediate temperatures. Compared with 316L it retains better mechanical properties at elevated temperatures. It is particularly common in German-speaking markets for chemical plant, heat exchangers, exhaust components and tanks. 3S supplies AISI 316Ti precision strip annealed 2R/BA and, when required, work-hardened 2H, as strip, narrow strips, spools and sheets from 0.05 to 0.70 mm (annealed) and from 0.05 to 2.50 mm (work-hardened).

Properties

  • Titanium-stabilised against intergranular corrosion
  • Good properties at elevated temperatures
  • Molybdenum for chloride resistance
  • Frequently specified in German standards and drawings

Frequently asked questions

Request a quote
316Ti or 316L: which should I choose?
Both resist intergranular corrosion. 316Ti is preferable for prolonged service at intermediate temperatures and for hot strength; 316L generally offers a better surface for polishing and cosmetic applications.
Does 316Ti polish well?
Titanium carbides and nitrides can leave micro-defects in high-gloss polishing. For visible parts with a mirror finish, 316L in BA finish is often the better choice.

How can I get a quote?
